We tested two models from Skullcandy, the 50/50s and the Fix. These 50/50s, the cheaper of the two, are sort of half way between in-ear headphones and traditional earbuds, and they provide decent sound for a decent pricetag ($50).

The 11mm drivers provide a richer audio experience than other buds under $50, but they've got other issues.

WORTH IT...BUT NOT FOR BASS OVERLOAD

      June 10th, 2014

      by MrSpartanIV

I had a pair of these for about a month or 2 and they sounded EXTREMELY GREAT! It was definitely worth while. I am a constant "basshead" so I always played songs with a lot of bass.(I USED WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER AND POWER AMP SO I INCREASED THE BASS EVERYTIME USING THE EQUALIZER FUNCTION) Unfortunately my 50/50s could not handle this as everyday I overworked it with a lot of bass which I regretted. After a while the right side of my headset then decreased significantly in volume unlike the left side. (I think the speaker blew) After a while I stopped with the constant overworking of all that heavy bass but alas the left side of my headset decreased in volume also. Today I still own this headset but the right side gave in completely so I now own a one sided functional headset. The point I am trying to make is do not overload this headset with bass constantly. In other words this was DEFINITELY WORTH A HEADSET and I recommend everyone to purchase one as the mids and bass are just right!. I am now considering to purchase a Skullcandy Ink'd 2.0 which seems pretty neat at the moment.

Best/Only Earphones I will ever use! Even after 3 years!

      April 18th, 2014

      by Kayla

I absolutely love my 50/50 Earbuds! I have had them for 3 years with no problem. I wear them almost daily for workouts and skype and the only problem I have had was about a month ago when the metal piece broke off the ear bud, I super glued it back on and it works like new! The sound is the same as when I first got them and they are very comfortable. They stay in through my workouts and running with no problem, the only downside is that they are not made for android, but the volume and the mic work great for Skype and phone calls! They have lasted this long even after dropping them on hard concrete, stepping on them and hitting them on things multiple times through the last three years. I will continue to use them until they are completely worn into the ground!

      50/50 Review

      March 28th, 2014

      by Jason

These headphones are great for the first month or two but the left earbud always stops working at complete random. Im about to go onto my 5th pair. The only reason I keep getting new ones is because of their warranty policy. Do not buy these if you only want working headphones for a month. This is absolutely ridiculous and I cannot believe they haven't figured out this defect by now.

I went through dozens and dozens of headphones before my best friend recommended me to Skullcandy. Usually she is into the trendy stuff and was not convinced that they were as good as she said they were-she ended up switching to Beats a few weeks later and they kept breaking on her. Turns out, she really should have stuck to Skullcandy! My 50/50 earbuds lasted me two years before they suddenly broke. Before these earbuds I constantly broke pairs but even after running them over with a car, slamming them in a door, and dropping them in a pool they survived with no damage except for a small scratch. The sound was good quality but sometimes quieter than I had remembered. The remote got stuck a few times but always worked and after I convinced my sisters that the earbuds were worth it, Skullcandy always honored their warrantee when needed replacing. Skullcandy headphones were a fantastic investment that I have yet to regret! They also were surprisingly comfortable.

Good Sound Quality, But Not As Good Manufacturing Quality

      March 8th, 2014

      by Jared

I love music, and having headphones with good sound quality is important. I have had two pairs of 50/50's and they are comfortable and sound good, except for a constant buzzing that i noticed. However the reason i had two pairs is because the right ear bud stopped working and I sent them back and they gave me a new pair. Then recently the new pair broke at the jack and had to send them back again. I'll admit that I'm not the kindest person towards headphones, but I took care of them as best I could without worshiping them and they still broke. I would recommend buying the Hesh 2's. My friend has a pair and for ten dollars more they last longer and have even better sound quality.

      Best earbuds I've ever had.

      March 2nd, 2014

      by Michael Hartsell

These are amazing, the only gripe I have is the microphone. It's designed for apple products, so the volume only works for those, but the track skip and mic work for android as well. Also, I cannot use these with a headphone splitter, or my computer, it messes with the signal, and the only way to make it work, is to hold down the mic button, very annoying. It's true, I've owned two pairs of these previously, but they lasted an acceptable time compared to other brands I've had. One lasted just over a year, the other over 6 months. Annoying having to send them in for another pair, but the bright side is you get a new pair each time. In this case I got the new 2013 design, which is superior in my opinion. The metal rim around the bud part, has been replaced with rubber, making it more comfortable, and it is no longer an earwax scraper (nasty). The only downside is that they took away the black/chrome design that I had previously, so I opted for the black and white, and to be honest, I don't mind it now. I had the same issue as others have stated, after some time, the left earbud went out. The first time it was a short in the cord near the jack, totally understandable, it's a fragile area. But the second time around, the left bud just randomly stopped working. It is worth the hassle of sending them back in, in my opinion, for the sound quality they have. I haven't bothered to buy a pair of beats by dre, because they are the most expensive, cheaply made pair of headphones you can own. I'll stick with Skullcandy.

They are good headphones for everyday users. They are good for constant users like myself. They are great with sound quality and the bass is phenomenal. The only issue I have is the quality of the product. Generally speaking they are good. However, the housing is made up of a plastic shell surrounding the components. This makes them lightweight and, though it may be a comfort thing, this makes them feel cheap. The flat cord is awesome. Rubber, not plastic, and not stiff. The other bad thing I have to say is that I have owned 3 pairs of these and each had the same problem: The left side would go out after about a month of heavy use with a very conservative volume

I have been with Skullcandy since the beginning with the original Ink'd headphones. Since then, I have owned almost every in-ear bud since and the 50/50 are just about perfect. I also own Monster and Beats headphones, and I still think Skullcandy is superior in value, sound profile and longevity. Plus, the warranty is incredible. The 50/50 buds are almost perfect - the one suggestion I have is a lightweight metal housing instead of plastic (maybe a pricier model/option) - that way they are as sturdy as the Titan's but with the extra comfort. Overall, I give them a 4.9/5 stars :)

I've only had a pair of these for about a day or so overall good headphones great sound, the new flat cord I've tried a lot of headphones and earbuds since I kill cords every three months or so, the ear gels aren't the most comfortable a pair of previous earbuds had an oliptical ear gel which was more comfortable and stayed in my ears better but I digress other than that my one gripe is the inline volume control love the idea the pause button and Mic work well but the up and down volume buttons do not work with any of my android devices which of which I have 3 and is a real let down, however works completely fine for apple devices. Overall great earbuds beautiful sound just a few minor details that reduce the greatness of the product slightly.

I honestly regret trying out a different pair of buds during the 12 days of christmas special, as the Skullcandy buds I purchased were not as good as 50/50s. The sound quality, the bass, and the volume is all EXCELLENT in the 50/50 headphones. Best of all they easily work with my motorcycle helmet because they are flat. I would recommend these headphones to any of my friends. When my current buds go out I'll be using my coupon on 50/50s and nothing else!

OK I love the sound and fit but they always break! This is so stupid. I take great care of my headphones. I've had bose headphones for years now only one pair and still fine. The bose are more expensive and have similar sound but they last. I know there is a warranty and I use it a lot. However, paying shipping isn't ideal and I'm sure skullcandy doesn't like giving free headphones out. FIX THE PROBLEM! The cord is too long and snags everything... potential reason for fast breaking??

New flat TPE cable does not fix problem

      September 30th, 2013

      by SolidONE

I've owned several pairs of skullcandy buds including 4 sets of fix in ear and this would be my 3rd set of 50/50s. They have all worked great before each of them failed the same exact way. The right ear bud will stop working after 2-4mos of usage. This new 50/50 has the flat TPE cable, which I assumed was a fix for this problem. Unfortunately the same problem still exists. If you don't mind sending in your buds and paying the postage every 2-4 months, these buds are great. This is the singular issue with these buds, but its a major one. Hopefully they figure out a real fix, or at least a solution that lasts longer than 2-4 months.

It is very difficult to blow out these headphones and they are quite resistant to the elements. Excellent earbuds, i got the shoe whites with the soft carrying pouch and I use them all the time with my iPod Nano 6G and the Mic3 feature is a must if you have an Apple device. Deep powerful bass provided by its 11mm drive, only flaw is that they don't fit good on my right ear and it's like the sound is lower there, after a while they become uncomfortable and any harsh movement pop them right off your ears.

Loved these earbuds! Rich bass, crystal clear sound, and for the price you can't beat them. They fit fine in my ears although seems like others have fitment problems. My issue is with build quality. I'm meticulous in my care and handling of these, always in the case when not in use, and have run into the dreaded "one side not working" issue. As far as sound and comfort goes, these headphones are pretty great. However, I have gone through 3 pairs of these using the defect warranty and now I'm finally just going to get an over the ear pair instead. All three pairs of 50/50s that I had just broke for seemingly no reason. I honestly forget what happened to the first pair, but the second pair got literally a few drops of water on it and the left bud stopped working. Then my more recent pair kept shocking me whenever it moved in the jack. I don't know, good headphones but they don't seem to be very sturdy, but maybe I'm just unlucky.

We have only 1year warranty in Singapore, which is not enough for me.Bought this awesome earphone on Jan 2012,1 to 1 exchange on June 2012 due to faulty on left side earphone. Same issue happen again on June 2013, unable to exchange it because exceeded the warranty time.Me and most of my friends were impress by it's sound quality, even one of my friend(Beats user) likes it so much but not it's build quality can't even last for a year. After first exchange, to make sure not damage it again, I will always put it back neatly into the pouch which included after used but same problem happens again. Skullcandy should improve their build quality, same issue happens twice within two years.

These earbuds offer a great range in sound. The bass is heavy and everything is very crisp. The different sized buds allow for perfect fitting as well. The only gripe I have with these is the durability. I am going on my third pair in a year. I do use these when I work out and during a normal day, so maybe using them when working out has something to do with, who knows. Regardless I have never had a problem with getting a replacement pair at no cost and will continue to do so through the lifetime warranty. Overall I would highly recommend these to someone.

      Great Headphones With 1 Flaw

      April 23rd, 2013

      by Amber

I love these headphones. Im pretty much a snob when it comes to the quality of any headphone I use and Skullcandy has always been a go to for me. These headphones were comfortable and I constantly use them. Night and day because Im a college kid. they deliver great rich sound, clear vocals, and the right amount of bass for me. I've had friends say its not enough for them, but for me its perfect. If you're looking for a headphone that gives you a sick amount of bass, these might not be for you, but try them out before you say no. the mic and remote are a necessity for me. Its make or break if headphones dont have them. However the mic during calls was lacking (making the person you're talking to sound far away) but it was clear. The only thing that is a major con for me is the way that the jack and wire area is made. In the beginning it seemed really sturdy and strong and it seemed it would be able to hold up with daily use of being slightly tugged, snagged, and being able to hold up with removing and inserting the headphone in. To me this seems like a problem with all skullcandy in ear headphone wires. Even though these headphones are starting to do the "no sound" in one ear, Skullcandy has an amazing warranty policy and it takes care of replacing them. I just wish they would work on the build and stability of the jack and that area.

      Really Good Buds

      April 19th, 2013

      by Kev

I had a broken pair of Heshs, and got an $80 voucher, (which is sick). Wanted to try one of their gaming headsets, but learnt the warrenty coupon doesnt apply to the gaming products. I wasnt mad, but a bit dissapointed. I have uprocks and ink'd buds, but thought this was a good opportunity to try out some pricier buds. They have a really nice sound and range of deep lows to nice highs. Definitely nicer than the ink'd, and depending on how often you'll use them, they're gonna be worth the extra bit of coin. Got the navy which look a lot more black than blue, but kinda in a good way. Overall, pretty happy!

      Too rubbery

      January 31st, 2013

      by Francisco

I've had my 50/50 for over a year now, and use it almost everyday on my commute. Although I do like the sound quality (for the price) and the noise insulation (not hearing street noise is almost worth using it alone), I have a LOT of problem with it staying in place. Not the fitting, wich is good with the 3 sized buds, but the cord is SOOO rubbery that it will stick to EVERYTHING, and I do mean that. If you wear a collared shirt to work (and I do), forget about it, because the volume/mic thing will grab your collar like a castaway to a life jacket. It just grabs on to it everytime I turn my head, and it is really annoying, wich makes the 50/50 very frustrating to use. My suggestion is to make the cord less rubbery and to place the volume control and mic half an inch down or up the cord. Seriuosly, I'd love this thing if it wasn't such a hassle.

So i'm sitting in class with my 50/50s on. All the sudden everybody stands up. I'm like "okaayy??" so I stand up too. Then everbody starts walking to the door. At this point I take my headphones out and to my suprise, the fire alarm was sounding! I was not listening to loud music either! They need to advertise these as noise canceling if they aren't already. PS: My school's fire alarms don't flash in the class rooms. That is partially why I didn't know they were sounding Overall: Great product. If you are looking for Hard, Pounding Bass you have come to the right place! I got these after returning my titans for the second time. First off, I have to say that these headphones have a great look them. They're modern looking, and chic. I do have a problem with the comfort. Ever since I got these, the right earbud hasn't been fitting in my ear as well as the other. It gets really irritating when it falls out. The control works really well. Soundwise, I think that they could do better. The bass is nice but definitely not as good as the titans. They block out a good amount of noise, but the titans are better. Overall, these re good earbuds, but I personally think that they could do better.

I'm on my third pair now, my left earbud stops working after a few months. I have small ears and got used to avoiding earbuds. I did lots of research and these were the most recommended earbuds for small ear canals. I'm glad to say the reviews are spot on. The smallest earbud silicone tip (set comes w/3) fit like a glove and keep the buds in my ears, even with shaking from jogging. The sound quality is amazing compared to headsets that come gratis with phones/music players, and the mic is perfectly decent. I like the flat cord; so much less tangling in my backpack. One thing to note -- the cord is longer than normal, presumably so you can use the earbuds with different kinds of computers, or maybe to accommodate taller people. This isn't a con in my opinion, but if you're 5'6" or shorter, you may have to get creative to keep it from snagging on things.

The 50/50 is a well-balanced mixture of audio. It has everything from crystal clear highs, precise mids, etc. However, the bass sounds like a muddy thump, lacking the clarity it claims to have. For the price, the bass is only decent. Comfort is exceptional, with no additional weight burdening your ears when you have it on. Also, it comes with large and small tips, allowing you to adjust to your likings.

Well sad to say my pair finally went on me after about a year, first the mic went then the right ear went. Even though they no longer work, I have to say that were some pretty good headphones compared to the (apple, jvc, and sony) pair i still have as far as sound quality and fit. I give them 3 stars because of their short life span, and that's being careful with them. I wont be buying anymore of these UNTIL either the price comes down or the build quality changes.. I'll still recommend these based on sound quality and fit, but I really hope they build these a bit better.

      Durable Headphones With Awesome Bass

      August 6th, 2012

      by Trevor

If you are in the market for a good quality pair of earbuds this is the best place to look. The bass is mind blowing to say the least and comparable to many over-ear headsets. I can hear every sound that comes out from deep bass to high soprano. They are also quite comfortable for about 4-5 hours. After that they become a bit irritating but a 10 minute break will fix that. How durable they are truly amazes me. After accidently leaving them in my pocket they went through the washing machine. After looking for them for a few days i finally found them in my pocket. Terrified that I had broken my $60 headphones i rushed to my computer and brought up a song...they still worked. After 3 months of being put through tons of heavy dubstep I have noticed little drop in sound quality. If at all possible get the travel case. It keeps them nice and protected from the elements. If you are looking for a great pair of quality earbuds look no further.

Overall, an excellent entry-level, low price pair of In-Ear Monitors

      August 4th, 2012

      by V.pic

While Skullcandy has recently begun to improve its product selection for the Audiophile (professional headphones, earbuds, etc.), it still seems to be a bit underappreciated in that community. The 50/50's are an example of entry-level In-Ear buds that are excellent for daily use with out-put systems that aren't professional grade. Their sound-signature has a heavy emphasis on bass, which is a tad stronger than what I'd prefer, but is still done nicely and doesn't detract from the overall composition of sound — which is rich and warm. The price is reasonable, and they would blow the stock-Apple earbuds out of the water any day, all day. One thing I LOVE about them is how long the cord is. I can't tell you how useful that extra length can be in an endless amount of situations. Generous cord length is much, much appreciated. I left out one star for one reason: when the cord moves, there's interference. [When I say 'interference', I don't mean of the electrical kind. What I mean is the sound of the cord fidgeting, or hitting my chest when I am walking reverberates in a way loud enough to sometimes even overpower the audio playing.] But other than that one issue, I'm prettymuch satisfied with this purchase. ッ

These are great headphones! I'm not sure how they pack so much bass into them, but it works! They handle highs and lows decently. My only concerns is the price and the comfort. The price seems a little high for what you're getting. Also, since I've had them about 5-6 months, the sound quality has gone done a small amount. Also I have been having trouble getting a good seal on them in my ears. They pop out of your ears really easily if you are not paying attention to the cord. Other than that, they are crazy good casual headphones.

I've put them in the wash twice, and they still work and sound amazing. These earbuds are durable and have good sound quality

A few months ago I purchased a pair of these. The sound is good for earbuds, and the bass is nice, too. The only thing I don't like is that they are a little uncomfortable.

They were my favorite earbuds ever! Mine did break, but that's because I play the drums and when I'm playing along with music sometimes I get to into it and accidently yank them out of my ears and they hit the rim of a drum. I'm gonna get more with my warranty, but I'm disappointed because they got rid of all of the cool colors. I WANT BLU WITH CHROME OR GOLD OR SOMETHING. But other then the lack of awesome colors, these were absolutely amazing! I took them with me everywhere I went! I recommend you buy them!

While I do not own a pair of the 50/50's myself I have sampled them and let me just tell you right off the bat that they are truly a masterpiece. The sound and bass output is amazing and still manages to leave the song complete in all aspects without dropping or reducing different synths or beats. I intend n getting a pair for myself as soon as I can. A bit pricey for in-ear earbuds but I can assure you, you won't be sorry you bought them. I truly beIieve skullcandy has set the standard for earbuds and headphones (except for maybe beats by dr.dre, but who wants to pay 100 bucks for a pair of earbuds that will be stolen the second you lay them down on a bench or something) To sum it all up, get these and you will be blown away by ingenuity. And bass. I can't forget the bass. (P.S for all of you people who got bad earbuds, I'm sorry you got a pair that were ruined. However, that does not mean you should whine on a review just because you are one of the few people who got some dysfunctional earbuds. Either take it out on your pillow or trade the earbuds in for a new pair.)

These are defiantly an awesome ear bud. Now i own a pair of beats studio's, so i hunger for great sound. These are pretty much the same sound, the bass is not over powering, its perfect. the mic with volume adjustment is also great for things like the i pod touch, iphone, and ipod nano gen 6(and yes the gen 6 has the fourth pin, i know cause i own one). also the case is great, conveant size for like your poket or bag. And sice i love to lisen to music i need a great headphone. These all around are one of the best quality ear buds you will ever buy.

The 50/50 headphones have amazing bass, although the headphones often slip off when exercising. They become uncomfortable when used for extended durations of time.

Amazing headphones. Bass is crazy hard and they get loud without getting distorted at all. I would recommend these to anyone looking for headphones. and they are so comfortable and fight right in my ear softly, but do not fall out. Lastly, if they ever break, just send em in and get new ones :D

      jack failed

      May 2nd, 2012

      by Cha

Before i bought the 50/50, i had a an unknown brand in-ear headphones. I tested the quality in sound and the 50/50 was way better. Bass was kicking. I took it for a jog and it did not fall out of ear. However, i've only had the 50/50 for about 2 months and the jack failed on me. My listening device is a phone and i keep it in my pant pocket when listening to my music. I believe this contributed to the failed jack. The wire is flat so it could only bend one way or the other. This product along with all of skullcandy's headphones is not compatible with non-iphones/iproducts(correct me if i'm wrong). What i meant is you could only listen. You cant control volume or talk on the phone. I have a Samsung Galaxy phone and I wish skullcandy could make their headphones compatible with other listening devices besides Apple.

Amazing headphones, don't know how so many have issues.

These headphones are amazing, I got a pair for Christmas back in 2010, and they still work to this day, even if the sound is degrading a bit, that tends to happen no matter what you buy, definitely worth the money, great sound that lasts. I really don't understand how some people have issues with them, or how they break them for that matter, I've snagged em accidentally stepped on them and all sorts of other things, and they still lasted.

amazing sound with a lot of bass, chords a little too long, one side stops working after a few months, warranty's is great they replaced my 50/50 right away and i was reimbursed, might chose another headphones if the malfunction happens again but I'm a lifetime consumer of skull-candy products

    Great All Around Buds

Out of the box, these earbuds delivered deep, pumping bass, but also left the treble intact. Sometimes, earbuds with deep bass muddy the mids and treble. These do not what-so-ever. Incredible sound quality for a great price. Highly recommend.

Until recently I hadn’t paid much attention to Skullcandy’s headphones and headsets—the company’s focus on extreme sports, punk- and hip-hop-inspired aesthetics, and too-clever product names (case in point: “Smokin’ Buds”) suggested I might not be in the target audience.

      July 6, 2011

      Publication: Wired

We tested two models from Skullcandy, the 50/50s and the Fix. These 50/50s, the cheaper of the two, are sort of half way between in-ear headphones and traditional earbuds, and they provide decent sound for a decent pricetag ($50).

The 11mm drivers provide a richer audio experience than other buds under $50, but they've got other issues.
